Lin SchorrI am honored to have recently been a participating artist in a collaborative mosaic mural that will soon be installed at the Providence Park Medical Campus in Novi, Michigan. The project was conceived by an online friend and fellow artist, the beautiful, Lin Schorr, who is in the process of coordinating the fourth in a series of four said murals.
The concept came about when one of Lin’s mosaics was chosen as first place winner in a mosaic challenge group.
...of AtlantisThe group’s rules state that the winner of the challenge be allowed to choose the theme for the next challenge. Lin chose the swirl….and from this, Swirlendipity I. & II. were born.
Swirlendipity I.Lin stated:
After some fast and furious brainstorming on the part of a few of the artists in the group, the little swirls had morphed themselves into a full blown mosaic quilt project. Being the instigator of the swirls I jumped at the chance to be the one to pull it all together... I do love a big project!
We ended the challenge on October 31st with 61 swirl entries! Though because not all were made on mesh I was sent the 56 that were. This created another challenge: To design the mural with the mosaics touching each other or break the project into 2 panels of 28. The swirls were almost perfectly divided into cool & warm colors so I decided to break it up.
Swirlendipity I will be located on the Orthopedics & Surgery level of the hospital and Swirlendipity II on the Women’s Services/Labor & Delivery & Neonatal level.
The mural I participated in was a mosaic jigsaw puzzle called, “Amuzapalooza”. The theme was "color" and each artist interpreted her puzzle piece in rich, saturated colors that, when united, created this incredible, cohesive design.
AmuzapaloozaI am at a loss for words to describe the overwhelmingly great feeling of having participated in a work of art so beautiful and with so many fantastic artists! I will always be grateful to Lin for allowing me to be a part of it. I think she has come up with something that has great potential for many fantastic future projects.
I can’t wait to get started on the next one.
Amuzapalooza will be installed on the Neurological Sciences & Oncology level of the hospital, and the 4th and final mural, still in its design phase, will be located on the Cardiology & Surgery level with the appropriate theme....hearts!
